McRae DJM R2 Circuit / Track Car
From its initial design concept there were always going to be two variants of the McRae DJM R4, this being 4WD rally car (R4) and 2WD circuit car (R2). Both vehicles being based on the same chassis, bodywork and sharing some transmission parts. The main difference in the two specs being the engine. The 2.5 litre normally aspirated 4 cylinder for the R4 and 3 litre V6 twin turbo for the R2 circuit variant.
Since the project was halted by the untimely death of Colin , DJM have come up with a number of refinements for the R2, that we plan to finish and sell. The main one being the installation of our own tried and tested 7 speed sequential paddle shift operated transaxle.
We have to date fitted the 7 speed casing into the R4 chassis to firm up any necessary modifications needed upon its installation. We have also produced a number of complementary upgrades for the planned V6 installation, these predominantly being an all new custom made dry sump system to allow for ultra low in chassis installation of engine, repositioning of turbos, again to aid centre of gravity and design and manufacture of our own carbon fibre/aluminium inlet plenum.
The proposed engine spec can be an expected bhp figure of between 550 and 650. This will ultimately depend on customer preference.
The R4 was designed to use 4 identical wheels and tyres however, we plan to use much larger wheels and tyres on the R2 to give the car a ready to use GT feel. We propose 8.5 - 9 inch front wheels and 11 - 11.5 rear wheels, both 18 inch diameter. This will allow the customer to fit readily available tyres from a variety of manufacturers with any number of compounds available.
We propose not to organise any wheels until we have a prospective customer to work with as the wheels will have a huge impact on the look of the car. We have on a number of projects to date fitted carbon carbon brakes so again the final spec for the braking system will be decided upon with the customer, be it a cast iron or carbon braking system.
The interior of the car will predominantly remain as per the R4 whereby seating position, steering wheel position and pedal position will be to suit the customers requirements. Instrumentation once again can be jointly agreed with the customer and can be integrated with a bespoke wiring loom .
Whilst we would like to turn out the finished car in its original debut colour (Rosso red) this again will ultimately be in the hands of the customer,
